Hypermetropia

Also called hyperopia is more commonly known as long sightedness. If you are hypermetropic you will have a plus number in the SPH (sphere) box of your prescription. Your distance vision may be good, but you will probably need spectacles for reading or close work otherwise your vision may be blurred or you could get eyestrain or headaches. If you have a strong hypermetropic prescription you may need to wear contact lenses or spectacles for distance vision as well. Your spectacle lenses will be thickest in front of your eye and will get thinner towards the edge. The size, shape and style (rimmed, semi rimmed or rimless) of your frame will all effect the thickness and appearance of your lenses and you should take the Dispensing Optician's advise to find the most suitable style for you. The Dispensing Optician will also be able to advise whether you would benefit from thinner material lenses.
